What is EMDR:
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing developed by Francine Shapiro to integrate traumatic memory.
This is an evidence-based method for working with trauma & anxiety, as well as to enhance performance and alleviate addictions
It is based in bilateral stimulation, eyes moving back and forth, or tapping on leg then the other, or buzzing in one palm then the other, or alternating beeps to left and right ears. This activates the brain, like when we are dreaming in the REM state, our eyes move back and forth as we process the days events.
With unintegrated memory, the past is present. We can get triggered into emotional reactivity as if the past were occurring right now, because to our nervous system and implicit memory, it is, until we learn how to release and restore memory into its long term explicit form. Utilizing somatic awareness, relational connection with a therapist, and the activation of our memory processing circuitry with bilateral stimulation, you can discover freedom from intrusive images, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors and begin to pave new pathways, new beliefs, and renewed sense of stability.
